Arenicola Marina: This specific worm is not hermaphrodite, it has separate sexes, male and female. Gonads are a vital part in the organism. The gonads shed gametes into the body cavity. After this process, species will begin to copulate. Some species produce reproduce by a process called epitoky. Epitoky is observed by marine worms. This process enables new, specialized segments to begin to grow. The epitoke segments are packed with eggs and sperm. When the epitoke later reaches surface, many worms burst which releases the eggs and sperm into water.
