Brittle Star: Brittle stars mostly have different sexes although very few of them can actually be hermaphroditic. A hermaphroditic organism is an organism that has both sexes so that it can reproduce with itself. Brittle stars also release their gametes into the water to reproduce sexually. The star will release its gametes from under its arm and it will go into the water and when it eventually finds an egg, it will fertilize it. Some new born brittle stars will not be strong enough when they are born and they will have to stay with their parent. It will attach itself to the parent star’s mouth and will detach once it grows old and strong enough.
